Who is responsible for your information

These Guys Know is an independent editorial publication based in Estonia.

The operator of These Guys Know determines why and how the personal information described in this policy is processed and is responsible for that processing.

Information we collect

The information processed depends on how you use the site.

Information you provide

When you email us, we may receive:

  • your name
  • your email address
  • the contents of your message
  • attachments or other information you choose to provide
  • technical information included with the email

We use this information to answer enquiries, investigate corrections or complaints, discuss partnerships, arrange review access and handle technical or privacy-related requests.

Please do not send sensitive personal information unless it is genuinely necessary.

Information processed when you visit

When you visit the site, limited technical and usage information may be processed by Ghost(Pro) and its infrastructure providers.

Depending on the request and service involved, this may include:

  • the page visited
  • the referring page or website
  • the date and time of the visit
  • browser, device and operating-system information
  • approximate country or region
  • IP address or related network information
  • page views and link interactions
  • information used to detect technical problems, spam or abuse

Some technical information may be processed temporarily to deliver and secure the site even when it is not retained or made visible to us.

These Guys Know does not currently offer public user accounts, memberships, paid subscriptions, newsletter registrations or public comments. We therefore do not collect account, subscriber, payment or comment data through the website.

How and why we use information

We use personal information only where we have a lawful reason to do so.

Legitimate interests

We process limited information where necessary for our legitimate interests in:

  • operating, maintaining and securing the publication
  • detecting spam, misuse and technical problems
  • understanding general traffic and article performance
  • responding to ordinary enquiries
  • investigating corrections, complaints and suspected misuse
  • managing editorial and business correspondence
  • protecting our legal rights and those of others

We consider the amount of information involved, why it is needed and the effect the processing may have on the person concerned.

Contracts and steps requested by you

When you ask us to enter into or perform an agreement, processing may be necessary to take steps at your request or fulfil that agreement.

This may apply to partnerships, licensing arrangements, commissioned work, review access or similar business relationships. Where the correspondence does not concern a contract with you personally, we normally rely on legitimate interests instead.

We may process, retain or disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, accounting obligations, legal proceedings or a valid request from a competent authority.

Analytics

These Guys Know uses Ghost’s native website analytics to understand general traffic, referral sources and article performance.

Ghost’s web analytics are first-party and cookie-free. They do not use cookies or persistent browser storage to recognise visitors across different sessions, browsers or devices. Unique visitors are counted within 24-hour periods rather than through a permanent visitor profile.

For publications hosted on Ghost(Pro), native analytics data is stored in EU regions. The analytics are not used for cross-site advertising or to build individual advertising profiles.

We do not currently use Google Analytics or another third-party analytics platform. If that changes, this policy will be updated and consent controls will be introduced where required.

Cookies and similar technologies

Ghost’s native web analytics do not use cookies or persistent browser storage.

The site may still use strictly necessary technologies where required for security, delivery or basic operation. We do not currently use cookies for advertising, memberships, newsletter accounts, public comments or paid subscriptions.

Some third-party websites or embedded services may use their own cookies or tracking technologies. Those technologies are controlled by the relevant third party rather than These Guys Know.

If we introduce non-essential cookies, advertising technology or another form of tracking that requires consent, visitors will be given an appropriate choice before it is activated where required by law.

External links and embedded content

Our articles may link to third-party websites, applications, social platforms, videos, tools, products or services.

When you follow an external link, the destination website may receive technical information from your browser and process further information according to its own privacy policy. These Guys Know does not control how external websites handle personal information.

If a page contains embedded third-party content, the provider may receive information when that content loads or when you interact with it. Review the provider’s privacy policy before submitting personal information or creating an account.

Service providers and other recipients

We currently use:

  • Ghost(Pro) for website hosting, publishing, security and native analytics
  • Namecheap Private Email for receiving, storing and sending email

These providers process information as necessary to supply their services and are subject to their own contractual and data-protection obligations.

Information may also be disclosed:

  • to professional advisers where necessary for legal, accounting or security matters
  • to authorities where disclosure is required by law or a valid legal process
  • where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims
  • in connection with a genuine change in the ownership or operation of the publication, subject to applicable data-protection requirements

We do not sell personal information.

International data transfers

Ghost stores native Ghost(Pro) analytics data in EU regions. Other hosting, support, administration and email operations may involve processing outside Estonia or the European Economic Area.

Where personal information is transferred to a country without an applicable adequacy decision, recognised safeguards may be used, including the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and appropriate contractual, technical and organisational protections.

You may contact us for more information about safeguards relevant to your personal information.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected.

Our normal retention approach is:

  • general enquiries and correction correspondence are reviewed and normally deleted within 24 months of the last meaningful contact
  • active partnership or contractual correspondence is kept while the relationship remains active and for a reasonable period afterwards
  • accounting, contractual and transaction records may be retained for the period required by applicable law
  • complaints, disputes and legal correspondence may be retained while the matter remains active and afterwards where reasonably necessary for legal claims
  • website analytics are retained in the Ghost(Pro) account while needed for historical publication reporting
  • hosting and security records follow the operational retention schedules of the relevant provider

Information may be deleted, anonymised or securely archived when it is no longer required. Residual copies may remain temporarily in protected backups until they are overwritten through normal backup processes.

Data security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, misuse, loss, alteration or disclosure.

No website, internet transmission or email service can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Avoid sending confidential or sensitive information by ordinary email when a safer method is available.

Your rights

Where the GDPR applies, you may have the right to:

  • ask whether we process personal information about you
  • request access to that information
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • request deletion of information in certain circumstances
  • request restriction of processing
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • receive certain information in a portable format where the legal requirements are met
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority

These rights are subject to conditions and exceptions under applicable law.

We may request reasonable information to verify your identity. We will normally respond within one month. Where a request is unusually complex or involves several requests, the response period may be extended as permitted by law, and we will explain the delay.

Because Ghost’s native analytics do not use a persistent visitor identifier, we may be unable to connect an anonymous traffic record with a particular visitor.

You may also complain to the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate or the supervisory authority in the country where you live or work.

Automated decision-making

We do not use personal information for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

Children

These Guys Know is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through accounts, subscriptions or comments because those features are not offered. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us, contact info@theseguysknow.io.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the publication, its service providers, its features or applicable legal requirements change.

The latest version will be published on this page with its most recent update date. Material changes will be communicated through the site where appropriate.
