- Description: Ten comedies for lazy Sundays when the beer is cold, the food order could feed a wedding and nobody wants another painfully clean Netflix comedy.
- Author: Mike Hazard
- Tags: Things to Watch, Movies

There are Sundays when watching a new film feels suspiciously close to work. Someone recommends a critically acclaimed drama about grief in rural Denmark, another guy opens Netflix and scrolls for twenty minutes, and the rest of the room slowly loses the will to live until somebody puts on The Hangover.

Nobody asks what it is about. Half the room can already recite the casino scene, one guy still insists he is Phil despite having the decision-making skills of Alan, and the food order has somehow grown large enough to cater a regional wedding. Five minutes later everyone is watching, even the idiot who said he wanted something new.

That is what this list is for. These are filthy, stupid and endlessly rewatchable comedies that work when the guys are together, the beer is cold and nobody wants to admire the cinematography. They are full of terrible decisions, horny idiots, drugs, public humiliation, damaged friendships and jokes that would be marched directly into a disciplinary meeting if somebody tried them at work.

Sometimes dick jokes are funny.

The ratings are included because people search for them and they give some useful context. IMDb ratings matter more here because they come from a huge crowd of regular viewers. Rotten Tomatoes critic scores are also included, although comedy critics can be strange people. Some of them watch a film about four idiots losing a groom in Las Vegas and leave disappointed that it did not sufficiently examine the human condition.

## Quick Answer: The Best Comedies to Watch With the Guys

1. **The Hangover trilogy**
2. **Superbad**
3. **EuroTrip**
4. **Project X**
5. **21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street**
6. **The Wolf of Wall Street**
7. **Pineapple Express**
8. **American Pie**
9. **Horrible Bosses**
10. **This Is the End**

Ratings below were checked in July 2026\. They move slightly over time because people keep opening IMDb years later to punish a comedy for not being Citizen Kane.

## 1\. The Hangover Trilogy

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/21/2f/212fa2d6-dfa3-4908-9426-ec8fc852e19d/content/images/2026/08/hangover_1-1.jpg)

Four friends wake up in Las Vegas with no memory of the night before and a missing groom to find.

The first Hangover remains the easiest answer to the question, “What should we put on?” It needs no explanation because everybody knows the setup. Four guys go to Las Vegas for a bachelor party, wake up in a destroyed hotel suite and discover that the groom has disappeared. There is a tiger in the bathroom, a baby in the cupboard, a hospital bracelet on Phil’s wrist and enough evidence of catastrophic stupidity to make any normal person leave the country.

The genius is that we arrive after the party. We do not watch the guys gradually become drunk and make bad choices. We wake up with them inside the wreckage and spend the film reconstructing a night that apparently included stealing Mike Tyson’s tiger, getting married to a stripper, being attacked by a naked gangster and somehow losing Doug on the roof of the same hotel where everybody began looking for him.

Phil is the guy every group thinks it has: calm, good-looking and supposedly in charge. Stu is the nervous one who has spent years being trained by an awful girlfriend to apologise before anything has happened. Alan is what you get when a grown man misses every social lesson between kindergarten and adulthood, then arrives at a bachelor party carrying roofies in a prescription bottle. Doug is missing, which is unfortunate for him but excellent for the film.

The first movie earns its place at number one because the group chemistry survives endless rewatches. You already know the tiger is coming, where Doug is hiding and how Stu will discover what happened to his tooth. None of that kills the laughter because the pleasure is watching these four specific men react to the disaster, with Chow appearing whenever the situation needs a fresh injection of nudity, violence or screaming.

The sequels are weaker, and pretending otherwise would be sentimental bullshit. Part II copies the original structure and moves it to Bangkok, where everything becomes darker, dirtier and slightly more hostile. Stu wakes up with a face tattoo, a finger is missing, a drug-dealing monkey joins the investigation and Chow returns because apparently one international disaster was not enough warning. The critics hated the repetition, which is understandable. A Sunday room full of guys tends to care less because Bangkok still gives the same cast plenty of room to ruin another wedding.

Part III drops the hangover structure and becomes a crime chase centred on Chow. It has a decapitated giraffe, a kidnapping, a gold heist and several moments that feel as if the franchise wandered into a different film after lunch. It is the weakest of the three, yet it remains watchable because these characters have already spent two films becoming the sort of friends whose presence guarantees that a simple car journey will involve organised crime.

The scores tell the story cleanly. The original has an [IMDb rating of 7.7/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1119646/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [79% from critics with 84% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10010667-hangover?ref=theseguysknow.io). Part II falls to [6.5/10 on IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1411697/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [35% from critics with 52% from audiences](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the%5Fhangover%5F2?ref=theseguysknow.io). Part III sits at [5.9/10 on IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1951261/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [21% from critics with 44% from audiences](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the%5Fhangover%5Fpart%5Fiii?ref=theseguysknow.io).

Watch the first one whenever the room cannot agree. Continue into Bangkok when nobody wants to go home. Put on Part III when the pizza is gone, judgment has collapsed and everybody has accepted that tomorrow will achieve nothing useful.

## 2\. Superbad

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/21/2f/212fa2d6-dfa3-4908-9426-ec8fc852e19d/content/images/2026/08/superbad-2.jpg)

Two best friends spend one last night trying to get laid before graduation, only to realise losing each other is scarier than striking out with their crushes.

Superbad is about two teenage boys trying to buy alcohol for a party because they believe booze will finally help them get laid. That plan is stupid, dishonest and painfully accurate to the way teenage boys can think when hormones have taken control of the boardroom.

Seth and Evan are about to leave school and go to different colleges. They speak to each other with the cruelty available only to close friends who know every insecurity, every embarrassing habit and every lie the other one has told himself. Their friendship is the centre of the film, but Superbad never becomes polite about it. Before either guy admits that separation scares him, we get fake IDs, period blood, a basement full of cocaine, two irresponsible police officers and McLovin discovering that confidence matters more than looking old enough to enter a cinema alone.

McLovin is one of those comedy creations that should have been annoying and somehow became immortal. His idiotic name appears on an ID claiming that he is a 25-year-old organ donor from Hawaii, while the photo looks like a child reporting for jury duty. Yet he walks into the shop with such magnificent misplaced faith that you begin to respect him, right before everything goes to hell.

The film also understands how teenage boys lie about sex. They describe themselves as experienced strategists while possessing the emotional control of labradors near an open bag of food. Seth spends most of the film behaving as if getting alcohol will solve his entire life, then reaches the party and discovers that women remain human beings with opinions, boundaries and the irritating ability to remember how he behaved.

That mix is why Superbad lasts: it is filthy without becoming empty, sweet without putting on a little bow and honest about the fact that male friendship often hides its affection underneath insults, disgusting stories and arguments about who owes whom a lift.

Superbad has an [IMDb rating of 7.6/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0829482/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [88% from critics with 87% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/superbad?ref=theseguysknow.io). The critics got this one right, possibly because even they remember being awkward, horny and full of lies at seventeen.

## 3\. EuroTrip

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/21/2f/212fa2d6-dfa3-4908-9426-ec8fc852e19d/content/images/2026/08/eurotrip.jpg)

Four Americans accidentally declare war on half of Europe, armed with stereotypes, bad decisions and absolutely no travel plan.

EuroTrip begins with public humiliation and refuses to improve anybody’s dignity from there. Scotty discovers that his girlfriend has been cheating on him with a tattooed rock singer, gets destroyed by a song about it in front of an entire party and then realises that the German pen pal he rejected is a beautiful woman rather than the man he assumed she was.

From there, Scotty and Cooper travel across Europe to find her, joined by twins Jenny and Jamie. The route includes London football hooligans, a French robot fight, absinthe, a Vatican accident, a nude beach with an extremely disappointing customer-to-woman ratio and a train encounter that makes personal space feel like a forgotten European luxury.

The film treats Europe as a collection of stereotypes assembled by four Americans whose knowledge of the continent could fit on the back of a beer mat. That is part of the charm. Bratislava looks as if one American dollar can purchase a hotel, a nightclub and perhaps the mayor. Amsterdam becomes a place where every innocent doorway leads to drugs, sex or both. The Vatican sequence takes the process for selecting a pope and turns it into a fire, a bell and an American tourist being mistaken for the new spiritual leader of more than a billion Catholics.

Some jokes have aged badly, while a few were already bad in 2004 and simply arrived before social media could spend six straight days discussing them. The film survives because it moves quickly, commits to every stupid premise and understands that travel with friends is usually remembered through disasters rather than museums. Nobody comes home talking for twenty years about the competent hotel check-in.

Scotty Doesn’t Know also does enormous work. It is catchy enough to outlive the film and cruel enough that Scotty keeps hearing strangers celebrate his own humiliation across an entire continent. Matt Damon appears, detonates the poor man’s relationship and disappears again like a very efficient terrorist.

EuroTrip has an [IMDb rating of 6.6/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0356150/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [47% from critics with 75% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/eurotrip?ref=theseguysknow.io). That 28-point gap tells you plenty: critics saw a stupid travel comedy, while audiences found a reliable Friday night.

## 4\. Project X

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/21/2f/212fa2d6-dfa3-4908-9426-ec8fc852e19d/content/images/2026/08/project_x-1.jpg)

Every teenager dreams of throwing a party like this. Almost none have the balls to actually pull it off.

Project X is the film people put on when they want to remember being young without remembering the police report, the property damage or the morning when somebody’s father stood silently in the kitchen and looked ten years older.

Three unpopular high-school friends organise a birthday party because Thomas’s parents are away. The original plan is small enough to sound believable. A few people, some alcohol, maybe a chance for Thomas to stop being invisible. Then the address spreads, the crowd multiplies and the house becomes the centre of a suburban war zone involving drugs, topless guests, a stolen garden gnome, a swimming pool, an angry little person inside an oven and a man with a flamethrower who responds to chaos by providing more chaos.

The party is the entire point. Project X does not pause every twenty minutes to teach the boys about responsibility because responsibility left the neighbourhood when the first hundred strangers arrived. The camera moves through rooms, gardens, cars and bodies while the scale keeps growing. By the time a helicopter is circling above a burning street, the early anxiety about whether enough girls will show up feels charmingly innocent.

It also works because every group has considered some smaller version of this fantasy, where everybody comes, the boring house becomes legendary for one night and the shy guy wakes up famous rather than grounded until retirement. The film gives that fantasy everything it asks for, then sends a flamethrower through the bill.

Nobody should use Project X as a planning guide. That needs saying because somewhere there is always one man who watches a cautionary disaster and sees a tutorial. The better use is to sit on a sofa, drink a beer and enjoy somebody else losing a house.

Project X has an [IMDb rating of 6.7/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1636826/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [28% from critics with 61% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/project%5Fx%5F2011?ref=theseguysknow.io). Critics viewed it as ugly and irresponsible, which is fair enough, although nobody put it on for responsible homeownership advice.

## 5\. 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/21/2f/212fa2d6-dfa3-4908-9426-ec8fc852e19d/content/images/2026/08/21_22_jump_street-1.jpg)

Two undercover cops discover that going back to school is somehow even more painful the second time around.

21 Jump Street takes a television premise that nobody was desperately asking to revive and turns it into one of the best buddy comedies of the 2010s. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum play Schmidt and Jenko, former school enemies who become police partners and are sent undercover as students because the department believes they still look young.

They do not look young, which gives the film its first good joke before the undercover operation has even begun.

The better joke is that school has changed. Jenko expects his athletic confidence and casual stupidity to make him popular, then discovers that the admired students care about the environment and dislike homophobic jokes. Schmidt, who was miserable during his first attempt at high school, suddenly fits in. The undercover operation becomes a second chance for one man and a delayed identity crisis for the other, while both remain far too incompetent to investigate a drug ring without accidentally taking the drug themselves.

The drug sequence alone earns a place on this list. Their journey through confidence, panic, sensitivity and catastrophic public behaviour feels like a corporate training video produced by Satan. Tatum is especially good because the film understands that a large, handsome man becoming emotionally wounded by basic chemistry is funny. Hill brings the anxious scheming, Tatum brings the physical stupidity, and neither one behaves as though he is above the material.

22 Jump Street repeats the formula at college and announces the repetition openly through a bigger office, louder budget jokes and Ice Cube remaining permanently one minor inconvenience away from killing somebody. Schmidt becomes jealous when Jenko forms a suspiciously intense friendship with a football player, and the film treats their partnership like a damaged romance without cleaning up any of the filth around it.

The sequel’s end-credit montage may be the finest response ever given to a studio demanding more franchises. It runs through increasingly ridiculous sequels, replacement actors, merchandising and future assignments until the entire business model has been beaten unconscious.

21 Jump Street has an [IMDb rating of 7.2/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1232829/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [85% from critics with 83% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/21%5Fjump%5Fstreet%5F2011?ref=theseguysknow.io). 22 Jump Street has an [IMDb rating of 7.0/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2294449/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [84% from critics with 77% from audiences](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/22%5Fjump%5Fstreet?ref=theseguysknow.io). Both films scored well because the critics were permitted to laugh without surrendering their professional dignity.

## 6\. The Wolf of Wall Street

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/21/2f/212fa2d6-dfa3-4908-9426-ec8fc852e19d/content/images/2026/08/wolf_wall_street.jpg)

Three hours of fraud, cocaine, obscene wealth and genuinely brilliant salesmen using their talent for almost everything except honest work.

The Wolf of Wall Street is three hours of fraud, drugs, greed, nudity, screaming and men using wealth as proof that every awful impulse deserves funding. Calling it a comedy can sound strange until Leonardo DiCaprio crawls toward a Lamborghini after taking expired Quaaludes and performs physical acting that would embarrass a tranquillised octopus.

Jordan Belfort builds a brokerage by teaching desperate salesmen how to unload worthless stocks onto people who cannot afford the loss. The money arrives, then the yachts, mansions, prostitutes, cocaine and office culture of a Roman orgy organised by LinkedIn influencers. Everybody is selling something, everybody is lying and nobody can hear his conscience over the sound of another commission cheque.

The film is hilarious because these men believe they are titans while behaving like animals that found a company credit card. Donnie sees Jordan’s pay stub in a diner and quits his job on the spot. A few years later they are throwing money around, shaving a woman’s head for entertainment and holding business meetings with the calm strategic focus of raccoons inside a pharmacy.

You can watch it with the guys because the film never goes quiet for long. Somebody is always giving a speech, betraying a friend, taking the wrong drug or attempting to operate machinery while his nervous system has resigned. It also produces an interesting room because one man will admire the sales skill, another will enjoy the chaos and somebody else will begin explaining that Belfort was misunderstood. Keep an eye on the third guy.

The danger is watching Jordan’s life as aspirational. Scorsese makes the excess seductive because that is how Belfort sold it, but the man underneath remains a thief with a microphone. If your main response is to buy a course on closing high-ticket clients from a man filming inside a rented Lamborghini, you may have missed a small piece of the message.

The Wolf of Wall Street has an [IMDb rating of 8.2/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0993846/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [79% from critics with 83% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the%5Fwolf%5Fof%5Fwall%5Fstreet%5F2013?ref=theseguysknow.io). Three hours is long for a lazy Sunday, but that becomes less serious when everybody has already wasted forty minutes rejecting other films.

## 7\. Pineapple Express

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/21/2f/212fa2d6-dfa3-4908-9426-ec8fc852e19d/content/images/2026/08/pineapple_express.jpg)

One dropped joint turns two permanently unprepared stoners into the least qualified fugitives in movie history.

Pineapple Express asks a sensible question: what would happen if a permanently stoned process server witnessed a murder and had to escape with the drug dealer he barely knows? The sensible answer is that both men would make every stage of the escape harder than the murderers could manage alone.

Dale buys rare weed called Pineapple Express from Saul, witnesses a killing and drops the joint while fleeing. The weed is rare enough to trace, which turns a recreational purchase into evidence and sends Dale back to Saul in a state of frantic paranoia. Saul is sweet, lonely and catastrophically unprepared for violence. Dale thinks he is smarter because he owns a tie and drives to work, yet most of his plans collapse before he finishes explaining them.

The friendship grows through panic, betrayal, a vicious fight inside Saul’s apartment and the gradual discovery that both men care about each other more than either planned. That fight is magnificent because it looks less like choreographed action and more like two exhausted friends trying to kill each other with whatever furniture has not already broken. Nobody becomes suddenly competent; they hurt themselves, destroy the room and remain angry for reasons that become less clear with every impact.

Danny McBride enters as Red and refuses to die with almost supernatural commitment. He gets shot, beaten and left behind, then keeps returning as if death has reviewed the paperwork and decided dealing with him is too much effort. The final restaurant scene, where three wounded men lovingly recount the night while eating breakfast, captures the entire film. Male friendship occasionally means surviving a drug war and then explaining the best parts to each other before the painkillers wear off.

Pineapple Express has an [IMDb rating of 6.9/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910936/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [68% from critics with 73% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/pineapple%5Fexpress?ref=theseguysknow.io). It is violent, stupid, affectionate and perfect when the room wants action without the burden of taking action seriously.

## 8\. American Pie

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/21/2f/212fa2d6-dfa3-4908-9426-ec8fc852e19d/content/images/2026/08/american_pie.jpg)

Four teenagers become convinced sex will solve all their problems. Reality, naturally, has other plans.

American Pie is the film that taught an entire generation several terrible lessons about pastry, webcams and the danger of leaving teenage boys alone with an internet connection.

Four friends make a pact to lose their virginity before graduation. The premise could hardly be more direct, and the film does not become shy once the mission begins. Jim attempts an online performance that reaches far more viewers than planned, Finch develops a reputation through a rumour campaign, Oz discovers that listening to a woman works better than treating sex like a school assignment, and Kevin spends so much time managing the pact that he almost forgets another person is involved.

Then there is the pie, where cinema’s century-long search for elegant ways to represent desire, shame and adolescence collides with a warm dessert on a kitchen counter. The scene became so famous that the title escaped the film and entered the language, which is a remarkable legacy for an object that began the day as somebody’s food.

Stifler supplies the aggressive stupidity, but his mother delivers the joke that follows him through the franchise. Finch’s revenge is ridiculous, calculated and far more memorable than anything the original sex pact produces. That is another reason the film holds up as a group watch: the boys begin convinced that sex will transform them into adults, while the story repeatedly demonstrates that maturity has very little interest in their timetable.

Some parts are properly dated, especially the webcam sequence, which is treated as humiliation and comedy when it is also a serious violation of privacy. A modern version could not shrug past that in the same way. You do not have to pretend every joke remains harmless to recognise the film’s place in raunchy comedy, and it captured adolescent panic with enough warmth that the characters feel foolish rather than purely disgusting.

American Pie has an [IMDb rating of 7.0/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0163651/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [62% from critics with 61% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/american%5Fpie?ref=theseguysknow.io). Those scores are modest for a film that permanently changed the reputation of apple pie.

## 9\. Horrible Bosses

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/21/2f/212fa2d6-dfa3-4908-9426-ec8fc852e19d/content/images/2026/08/horrible_bosses.jpg)

The workplace revenge fantasy every office worker has entertained for at least five seconds.

Horrible Bosses begins with a fantasy most employed adults have entertained during at least one meeting: what if the person ruining my life simply stopped being alive?

Nick works for a sadist who dangles promotions in front of him for sport. Kurt’s decent boss dies and leaves the company to a cocaine-addicted son who treats employees as disposable furniture. Dale works for a dentist who sexually harasses him, manipulates photographs and threatens his relationship while everyone around him assumes a man should be grateful because Jennifer Aniston is attractive. The joke is that Dale receives abuse and then gets mocked for objecting, which is an efficient little summary of how stupid people can become when the victim is male.

Nick, Kurt and Dale decide to murder their bosses despite being three irritated employees rather than hardened criminals. They have watched a few films and developed the confidence of men who believe buying disposable phones counts as operational expertise. Their planning session with Jamie Foxx’s consultant goes badly from the moment they misunderstand his nickname, and it keeps deteriorating because none of them can follow instructions without introducing a fresh layer of incompetence.

Charlie Day does panic better than almost anyone. Jason Bateman brings the exhausted expression of a man who knows the plan is terrible but has already invested too much time to leave. Jason Sudeikis plays Kurt as the friend who could sabotage a murder conspiracy because he became distracted by an attractive woman in the building.

The bosses matter because each represents a different flavour of workplace hell: cruelty, entitlement and predation wrapped in professional clothing. The revenge fantasy gives the film its engine, while the friendship keeps it rewatchable. These men are useless criminals, yet they remain strangely believable as colleagues who complained over drinks until one of them said something insane and the others failed to end the conversation.

Horrible Bosses has an [IMDb rating of 6.9/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1499658/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [69% from critics with 70% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/horrible%5Fbosses?ref=theseguysknow.io). It is also a useful film to watch after work because your own manager will probably seem less offensive unless he has installed surveillance equipment or keeps cocaine beside the quarterly reports.

## 10\. This Is the End

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/21/2f/212fa2d6-dfa3-4908-9426-ec8fc852e19d/content/images/2026/08/this_is_the_end.jpg)

The apocalypse arrives, Hollywood loses its mind and Danny McBride somehow makes everything even better.

This Is the End gathers Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson and Danny McBride, asks them to play monstrous versions of themselves and then introduces the biblical apocalypse as if the party needed a stricter guest policy.

The celebrity cameos arrive first, with Michael Cera behaving like a feral little tyrant, Rihanna slapping him and half of Hollywood falling into a giant hole outside Franco’s house. The survivors barricade themselves inside with limited food, too many drugs and the kind of male egos that can turn a water ration into a constitutional crisis.

The film becomes filthy very quickly and never asks permission, with Jonah Hill getting possessed and a demon arriving with anatomical confidence that no family screening needs. Danny McBride discovers the hidden supplies, wastes most of them and returns later as the leader of a cannibal gang with Channing Tatum attached to a leash. By the time the Backstreet Boys appear in heaven, the film has travelled so far beyond good taste that finding the way back would require GPS and several concerned relatives.

Franco’s porn magazine argument is a fine example of why the cast works. The stakes are eternal salvation, demons are outside and food is running out, yet two men can still dedicate enormous emotional energy to ownership of a magazine. Every character wants to believe he is decent. The apocalypse keeps presenting evidence that he may be an arsehole.

Under the filth, it is another friendship film, although this one makes the friends survive fire, possession and an enormous horned demon before admitting they have treated each other badly. That emotional core never turns the room into therapy because another obscene disaster arrives before anyone can become too sincere.

This Is the End has an [IMDb rating of 6.6/10](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1245492/?ref=theseguysknow.io) and [82% from critics with 71% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/this%5Fis%5Fthe%5Fend?ref=theseguysknow.io). The critics liked this one more than the audience, perhaps because mocking famous actors gave everybody in the screening room a shared professional interest.

## The Comedies That Just Slightly Missed the List

Tropic Thunder could easily replace one of the bottom three, especially when the room wants satire with its stupidity. Robert Downey Jr. plays an actor so committed to method acting that every sentence becomes a fresh career emergency, while Tom Cruise gives the most aggressive dance performance ever delivered by a bald studio executive.

Step Brothers deserves a place whenever the group wants two grown men behaving like territorial children inside a suburban home. Wedding Crashers remains dependable, Borat is still capable of making a room laugh and then look around to check who laughed too loudly, and Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle turns the search for fast food into an odyssey involving racism, prison, drugs and Neil Patrick Harris behaving like a man who has escaped his publicist.

The Dictator has enough brutal jokes to qualify, although it fires so widely that several miss and hit the furniture. Old School, Road Trip and Anchorman also belong in the wider rotation. A top ten has to stop somewhere, or this becomes a database compiled by a man avoiding his family.

## Which Comedy Should You Put On Tonight?

If nobody can agree, choose The Hangover. It is the safest possible choice among films containing roofies, a tiger and an unexpected penis.

Choose Superbad when the group wants friendship, nostalgia and teenage humiliation. Choose EuroTrip when everybody is willing to accept that Europe will be represented with the accuracy of a drunk airport brochure. Project X is for the louder night, Pineapple Express works when somebody wants action, and The Wolf of Wall Street is there when the food has arrived and nobody minds surrendering three hours to magnificent human corruption.

The point is to stop scrolling before the room becomes old enough to qualify for a different demographic. Pick one, open the drinks and let the same jokes work again. Nobody receives a medal for finding a new comedy that makes half the room check its phone.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is the best comedy to watch with a group of friends?

The Hangover is the best all-purpose choice because the premise starts quickly, the cast has clear group chemistry and the biggest scenes remain funny after repeated viewings. Superbad is the better choice when you want something warmer, while Project X suits a louder room where nobody plans to listen to every line.

### What are the best raunchy comedies of the 2000s and 2010s?

The strongest group includes The Hangover, Superbad, EuroTrip, American Pie, Pineapple Express, 21 Jump Street, Horrible Bosses and This Is the End. American Pie arrived in 1999, but leaving it out of a modern raunchy-comedy list over one calendar year would be pedantic nonsense.

### Why do Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb ratings differ so much for comedies?

IMDb reflects ratings from a large user base, while Rotten Tomatoes separates professional reviews from audience scores. Broad, filthy comedies often divide those groups because critics judge construction, originality and taste, while a normal viewer may only care whether the film made six friends laugh on a sofa. Both scores offer context, but neither can measure the mood in your room.
